PORTFOLIO OF WORK
Luke Campodonico: Work

Top of the hill perched
Grasses and trees sway gently
Choked out by the smoke

Fires
Flames
Plaguing the air
We are subject to its power
When the fires are not here but there
We see how things affect us
Indirectly affecting that is
Because we cannot see the fires
Testing our morals
A quiz
Testing our willingness to help
Those who we did nothing too
As they escaped from the fires
With nothing but a shoe
But as our morals take hold
And our empathy comes out
Good people help because
That’s what it’s all about.

A good poem is one that both the reader and the speaker believe to be a good poem. However a poem’s "quality" can vary from person to person due to personal connections to things written about in the poem or just subjective preference. For example some people only like poems that rhyme and follow a strict rhyme scheme, while others prefer poetry written in free verse.

So often in life
We seem to lose sight
Of the things that make life great
Sucked in to the bad
you can get so sad
You’ll completely give up on your fate
When the going gets tough
Take a step back
Breathe and look around
To happiness and success
That is where you’re bound
Now step outside
Take a big breath
You know that you are great
Find something that you can be thankful for
And never give up your fate
