WHO AM I?
Phillip Way - a musician, environmentalist, and avid gamer from Corte Madera - presents to you a few pieces of his poetic works. Influenced by his love for earth’s natural beauty, poems like "In An Instant" and "Above it All" are very representative of his style. He often highlights commonalities of the human experience, for he thinks visualizing and examining relatable human experience is at the root of our nature, and it is in that connection where he finds his interest in poetry.
A Tranquil Place
Foot after foot I stroll through the dark, it surrounds me.
My mind races, and yet my pace does not reflect this -
Incredible how the silent moments can be the most intense.
I’m thinking of my path - and not of the midnight outing as that always stays the same.
My mind is troubled by the path of life that I will walk
Many far expectations, further hopes, further yet - my own dreams
Instinctually, I turn the corner of the bike path,
It’s up and through the tunnel from here.
Not much farther to a tranquil place, tucked away below this little mountainside.
I arrive.
I sit.
Cozy.
I let my music and the atmosphere of the pines and owls around me
Drag my thoughts through the stars
I can let my worries flow away in the sea of wind around me
Revitalized, I can point my feet towards home again
A brisk walk back concludes the evening’s picturesque peace
IN ANÂ INSTANT
ENERGY OF LIGHT BURSTS FROM THE DEPTHS
IT BREAKS, SPILLING FROTHY UPON A ONCE PLACID SHEET OF NAVY.
SURGING POWER OVERWHELMS ITS CONSTANT, GLASSY PRISON;
CARRYING WITH IT THE SMILES AND SAILS OF ADRENALINE JUNKIES.
AS ALL THINGS, EVEN FEROCIOUS MIGHT COMES TO END.
RHYTHMIC RELAPSE GUIDES ITS MYSTICAL ENERGY TOWARDS A STRETCH OF DISSIPATION -
WHERE POWER RECEDES.
ABOVE IT ALL
I stand atop Mt. Everest,
Hands held high with joy.
The view of everything from above
Ignites my eyes with a burning passion
Of wanderlust, of exploration
Of excitement, and determination.
The same sensation grips me now
As it did when this journey began.
From the edge of each expanse of water,
To each labyrinthian forest and perilous mountain
Both freezing tundra and flowing molten,
I will never stop adding to my book of adventures.
Until I lay for the final frontier.
As you see I get lost in my mind
Even here, even now
Having experienced life for all it can be
And yet, I am unsatisfied…
There will always be more to feel, to see,
To smell, to hear, to explore -
I guide my mind, body, and spirit
The world is mine for the taking
