PORTFOLIO OF WORK

White Rose.jpg

THE WHITE ROSES

The white roses I brought home
just a few days ago
The white roses with delicate, pale petals
I was careful not to touch
for fear they would brown and wrinkle
before their time
The white roses that opened
just to that middle place
before going too far
before dropping their strength
illusory blurred line from living to dying
capturing just enough light
to fully release their seductive fragrance
I breathed in like drinking
some elixir
I knew wouldn’t be there tomorrow
today I can still smell something faintly
reflecting the essence I consumed
greedily yesterday
though it isn’t the same

Transformation.jpg

TRANSFORMATION

I’m tired of running
Unless I’m in the forest
And the fallen golden leaves listen
And the mesmerizing views
Of depthless blue skies
Outline trees
Unless I look up
A bird riding the air anywhere
See sun rising, spreading its orange
And deep red as it slowly warms the earth
And thaws troubled sleep
Unless I have a song in my heart
Or a friend by my side
Speaking of so much more than strides
Transforming pain into grace and
Holding it up with a makeshift string
Knotted together by faith

Becoming.jpg

BECOMING

We are always becoming
Heavy loads can be put down
Energy is never lost
The light always travels somewhere
Through the dark, it finds a crevice
Transformation is everywhere and constant
Endings and beginnings blur into oblivion
It’s almost impossible to tell when something will start
