BLACK PANTHER

When I first heard it I was in disbelief.

I read it on my screen,

He had died.

I decided to look further into the details.

As I read the article I can see the reflection of the screen,

I saw my face distort, and distraught feelings

I saw in my own reflection the face of disbelief and incredulity.

It was Colon Cancer, they said.

He passed away in his own home with his wife and family by his side

Again I saw the reflection,

My hand covering the lower half of my face.

Disbelief and incredulity

Even Now

Disbelief and incredulity

Rest in peace Chadwick Boseman.

I WONDERED

If I could just be like you

Traveling the skies

Soaring through the foggiest clouds,

And rain, and thunder.

I wondered if I could team up with the wind and defy all laws

Soaring through the smallest gaps between city buildings and crevices

I wondered if it was an impossible feat to pull off.

To become just like you,

It was but a mere dream.

I realized it was a futile thought

It was impossible to defy the natural laws and become wind

 and soar the skies.

Although hope had not been lost.

I hoped that some day,

Maybe even tomorrow or a century from now,

We would have made the impossible happen,

Where dreams become reality,

And lies become truth,

Fiction becomes fact.

I stood back up on both feet

I head home posthaste for dinner,

The wind blew on my face,

It blew away the doubts,

I started from zero again.

I AM, I LOVE, I LIKE, I KNOW

I love my siblings
I am very motherly at times
I like to take household matters,
Responsibility
And
Chores into my hands
I know that not not much support is provided to me
Even so
I am
I am a brown teenage boy who has been criticized for my ethnic background
I love who I am
I love the color of my skin
I love the colors white and black,
I hope that someday we can all get along
I wish we could all come together
I hear arguing
I see conflict
I’ve witnessed for myself horror
I’ve seen bullet holes on a grown man's chest before
I know this is the world I live in
Even so
I love
I love the earth and the entertainment amusement parks and six flags has
I love waterfalls and lakes
I love city lights and sunsets
I love sunrises and morning breakfast
I know that the world is having a pandemic
Even so
I am
I like
I love
I know

WHAT IS POETRY TO MOISES ZARATE

A good poem is one that leaves a lasting impression on you. You want to be able to look back on those poems. For example I like  poems of hope and inspiration that give meaning to the reader. Even if the poem is not a hopeful one or inspirational, It has to spread awareness and remind people so that they never forget.
